Word verification

Coastal Simplicity
Original oil painting  14x18"
by Susan Roux

Is it just me or are you annoyed by the new word verifications too? I'm finding myself commenting less and less since the change to the double word. Many times, the verification is longer than my comment! It's becoming tedious and frustrating.

I suppose I could write to blogger urging them change it back, but something tells me that would be an impossible feat. After all there must be some reason they suddenly change it in the first place.  Who am I to tell them to revert to the old one?

No. It's not my approach. Instead I prefer to appeal to you. All you lovely artists bloggers. Do we really need the word verification anyway? Who among us will spam comments? I think it's safe to assume that that really isn't an issue here. Perhaps if we were targeting the masses, it might be an issue. I know we like to think we're reaching all of them, but seriously, who are your comments coming from?

Other artists.

I thought I disconnected my word verification back last summer. Recently I was in my settings and realized it was still turned on. I apologize for making you type all those unnecessary words for so long. Apparently I mustn't have "saved the changes" when I made them. Now I believe it's really disconnected. If you still have to type their crazy letters here, please let me know.

You're already aware from my last post, my eyesight isn't great. Even with my glasses on things aren't perfectly clear. (maybe it's time to visit an eye doctor, but I just don't want to) I suppose if the new letters in the word verifications were clear and straight, this wouldn't be an issue for me.

However they aren't.

I find myself wondering if it's an r pushed into an n or if it's an m. Today I came upon a double o. You'd think if I discerned the first o the second one would be a snap. No, it wasn't that easy. The second o looked nothing like the first one. It was all dented and bumpy and attached to an l. So was it a d or another o???

If I would have written like this in grade school, I would have flunked penmanship.

So please everyone, be comment friendly. Go to your settings and change that nasty word verification to a "no". And please be smarter than I was in July and remember to click save changes.

I blog with morning coffee. It's a nice way to wake up. Unfortunately lately, frustration builds with every comment I leave, making me start my day on the wrong foot! I hope you'll join me in simplifying are comments. Let's take matters into our own hands and annihilate the word verification from our blogs. Please pass the word around.

(If we begin to have problems with spam comments, we can always turn it back on...)

Thank you and happy commenting!

  1. Susan, many of us are disgruntled over word verification and talked about it on my blog several weeks ago. When we decided to say no to word verification, we were bombarded with spam every single day which meant more time getting rid of the spam messages and weeding out the bad ones than it took to keep word verification. I think it is a necessary evil so I have to leave mine on. I have found that the words are readable 95 out of 100 times.

    Gros bisous

  5. Your comments are spot on and your paintings are, as usual, very lovely. I had never thought of disabling the comment verification - thanks for putting the idea out there.

  6. Hahaha!! You aren't the only one frustrated with that. I feel indebted to anyone kind enough to leave a comment. Not sure I dare take it off though. :-/

  7. I agree, Susan. I have never used the word verification on my blog and have only had one spam comment in the entire time I have blogged. I think this landscape and the one in the previous post are just lyrical!

  8. Hello Susan,
I disabled my word verification long time ago, I am sure it is still working. Even I hate site which have this feature. I hardly get any spam.
    Beautiful paintings, as always.

  9. Glad my blog isn't one that gives rise to frustration and never has been. I hated those word verifications so much (even before Blogspot changed to this new mess) that I turned mine off way back when. And? I've never been inundated with spam. How hard is it to click "delete" if it makes it in there anyway? I did read of another artist blogger who turned her wv thing off and was overwhelmed with spam. I was quite surprised at that. I've not had a one. Anyway, love this soft landscape. Makes me want to have a picnic and just breathe!

  11. Without verification at one time, my blog was linked to a website for free greeting cards through the comment. I think a particular card is still circulating! I don't like the new verification process, but have been unable to figure out how to disconnect it. I love your work!

  12. I wish I could turn off the word verification without getting spam, but don't seem to be one without a lot of spammers hitting me. It takes up a lot of time to read and delete so many :( Sorry if it makes it more difficult to post comments on my blog.

  13. Oh I hate those things! I do the spam thing and it catches them all!

  14. First, Susan, this painting is absolutely beautiful, as always!! You never disappoint us! Secondly, I'm so bad with computers, I don't really understand certain things and I'm afraid to change it...but hopefully, they will disconnect it since its really awful! Sometimes I have to write their crazy words 2 -3 times!

  15. Yes hmuxo! I'm right there with you on that. Sometimes I leave the page out of frustration without ever posting my comment!

RH Carpenter, if you're the only one left with the WV, I can deal with that. Don't worry. I won't protest against you. It's just if we can bring the number down on those where spam isn't an issue, it would be nice for us all.

  18. Hi Susan,
I love your soft brushwork and the sense of peace in your paintings.
I was getting a lot of spam when I turned off my word verification, so I had to turn it back on. I just tried turning it off again, since I see that it can be a real irritation to people. I've I'm spammed again once or twice I'll live with it, but I hope that poster company doesn't worm its way back into my comments- it would leave 5 or 6 comments on different posts all at once.

  19. After I left my comment I realized that it needed your approval, so I changed my settings to comments needing approval. This way I hope I can weed out the spam easily.

  20. Hello Susan, just new here and I am stunned by your work, I absolutely love the way you achieved the atmosphere in your painting. It's so serene!

Me too, I'm just boring with this word verification and have changed my setting like Taryn did.

  21. Thank you so much for your comment and following and sorry for the difficulties you met posting it, because of verification words.
I chose "no" and the spam messages increased, though the spammers gave me polite and encouraging comments))) now I am in "on" mode again.
Now I want to try "comments approval" feature.
I am your follower from long ago, beautiful art.

  22. Love your dancing-in-the-light spill of flowers.
And yes, the double word, fun-mirror letters in the new verification drive me mad!... which makes me sad because I truly love to comment!

  24. I am just back to blogging and yes I agree the two word verification is annoying. I do though need the verification because I did in fact have a very bad experience of somebody making a terrible and hurtful comment on my blog. I am so pleased to see you are still producing beautiful art.

  25. I had no idea that I could even turn it off. I'm so bad with computers. I hate the new verification too. I'll see if I can do that with mine as well. Love the painting!
